Allyn Scura is the owner and designer of Allyn Scura Eyewear.
She was raised in Southern California before moving
to New York City to study interior and product design at Parsons
School of Design. Her
career in the eyewear industry began in 1988 when she started
purchasing and distributing original, unused antique and vintage
frames.
Realizing
that unused vintage eyewear is a finite commodity, Allyn began
designing her own line of eyewear in 1993.
In 1999, Target stores selected her designs to represent
their premier line of ophthalmic eyewear nationwide. Allyn's
vision for eyewear design is often inspired by mid-century
modern design pioneers like Mies
van der Rohe, Florence Knoll and Eero Saarinen.
Chances are you’ve
seen Allyn Scura frames in the media.
Her work has shown up in national commercials like
Revlon, worn by Cindy Crawford.
Celebrities such as Elton John, Courtney Cox, Goldie
Hawn, Lyle Lovett, Rosanne Arquette, Shawn Calvin, Rebecca
DeMorney, Mary Chapin-Carpenter and more enjoy wearing Allyn’s
designs. Also, many
of her frames have been showcased in films such as Big Daddy,
IQ, Addams Family Values, Lost in Yonkers and JFK Reckless
Youth. Click here to view recent press. |
